It’s a virus-filled world, isn’t it?
Have you been stabbed by a mosquito? Hopefully not. Why? Because one of the nasty things that you can possibly get from it is ross river fever.
Ross River Fever is a mosquito-borne disease that has been steadily spreading across Australia, with around 100 new cases being reported each year. The virus is carried by mosquitoes and can be found in swamps and still pools of water. There are no vaccinations or cures for Ross River Fever so it’s important to protect yourself against mosquitos while you’re out in them.
Luckily there are some ways to do this! Listen in as Claire talks more about what you can do and what some of our clients have done after they’ve been jabbed.
‼ The symptoms of Ross River virus can be very debilitating and is Australia’s most common arbovirus. It is transmitted by mosquitoes and is an illness characterised by fever, aching joints and sometimes a rash – these symptoms may occur together or separately. Whilst infection does not result in mortality, people may experience fever as well as joint pain for weeks or months with this illness before it goes away on its own accord.
Our shrinking environmental footprint is one of the reasons why mosquito-borne diseases are on the rise. It’s important for all of us to do what we can so that these illnesses don’t take over, and this includes being mindful about how much waste food you produce in your house or garden. It’s time that we take our own action!

There’s really not a lot that modern medicine can do in terms of ross river fever, besides just giving you painkillers – which we know gets broken down in your liver and the liver takes its toll because viruses love hanging out there.
‼ So is there another way around this? But of course! Just do a little research and talk to someone that can help!
It’s a hard truth to swallow, but viruses are going to happen. To protect yourself from the harsh reality of this virus-filled world, it is important to always be informed about the current health situation and look for alternate ways to further boost your immune system.
It is not uncommon for humans to catch viruses, and it’s important to be aware of the different types that exist. Have an open mind.
